Dallas Mavericks Move Local NBA Telecasts to Tegna Stations
What Happened?
The Dallas Mavericks have signed a multi-year agreement with Tegna Inc. to telecast local NBA games on Tegna's CW33 and Telemundo 39 stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, beginning with the 2023-24 season.
The agreement includes exclusive local telecast rights to all regular season and playoff games not nationally televised, as well as select preseason games and original programming.
Why It Matters?
The move to Tegna stations marks a significant change for the Mavericks, who have previously had their local telecasts on Fox Sports Southwest since 2002.
The deal with Tegna expands the Mavericks' reach to a wider audience, as CW33 and Telemundo 39 reach more than 2 million households in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
What's Next?
The first Mavericks game to be broadcast on Tegna stations will be the team's season opener on October 19, 2023.
Tegna plans to provide extensive coverage of the Mavericks throughout the season, including pre- and post-game shows, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes content.
Additional Details
- The agreement also includes the creation of a new regional sports network, Mavs TV, which will be available on streaming services and select cable providers.
- The Mavericks will continue to produce their own game broadcasts, which will be distributed to Tegna stations.
- Tegna also has the option to sublicense the Mavericks' telecast rights to other regional sports networks in the future.
