Man City thrash Paris FC despite missing Khadija Shaw with visa issue
Man City began their Women's Champions League Group Stage with a 2-0 win away to Paris FC
On Tuesday night, Gareth Taylor's side made the trip to the French capital to take on Paris FC in their opening game of the 2022/23 Women's Champions League Group Stage.
Despite missing key striker Khadija Shaw, who was unable to travel due to a visa issue, Man City were still too strong for their hosts.
Lauren Hemp and Julie Blakstad scored the goals for Man City
Lauren Hemp put Man City ahead in the 25th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box.
Julie Blakstad made it 2-0 in the 68th minute with a close-range finish.
The win was a good start to the group stage for Man City, who will now face Real Madrid at home in their next game on October 12.
Khadija Shaw's visa issue is a blow to Man City
Khadija Shaw is one of the most important players for Man City, so her absence is a blow to the team.
The Jamaican striker scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, and she has already scored three goals in four games this season.
Man City will be hoping that Shaw's visa issue can be resolved as soon as possible, as they will need her firepower if they are to challenge for the Women's Champions League title.
Man City have a strong squad that can cope without Shaw
Despite missing Shaw, Man City still have a strong squad that is capable of winning trophies.
The likes of Lauren Hemp, Julie Blakstad, and Laura Coombs are all world-class players, and they will be looking to step up in Shaw's absence.
Man City also have a good record in the Women's Champions League, having reached the semi-finals in the last two seasons.
They will be confident of reaching the latter stages of the competition again this season, even without Shaw.
